Students in the Environmental Design Capstone recently traveled with Ron Frantz and Hope Mander to visit their project site in Alva, Oklahoma.

The course is examining design opportunities for Alva’s courthouse square and connection to the university a few blocks from downtown.

When you’re headed north on I-35, a brunch stop at the Kumback Cafe in Perry, Oklahoma is a must. Perry also provides a great example of a classic Oklahoma courthouse square.

In Alva, students explored the downtown square and met with community leaders to talk over concepts and visions for downtown. Now, the students are developing solutions for a performance stage and a streetscape connection between downtown and Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
